Ed Sheeran Is Now a Doctor (Really!)

Is Ed Sheeran trading his guitar for a stethoscope? Heck no, but the singer is now technically a doctor.

On Monday, he was awarded an honorary doctorate degree from the University Campus Suffolk in the U.K. The 24-year-old was selected for his “outstanding contribution to music” and the acknowledgement had extra meaning as he’s actually from Suffolk but dropped out of school at 16 to pursue his dream of making music.

“I’m really grateful to University Campus Suffolk and I’m honored to receive this honorary degree,” the red-headed crooner said at the ceremony. “I’ve had an amazing year with my world tour and this makes it even better. Suffolk is very much where I call home and I’m always welcomed back and get so much support.”

Sheeran celebrated the honor on Instagram by posting a pic of himself in the traditional robe and hat, but with his tattoos showing and Converse sneakers peeking out. A very rock ‘n’ roll look. “I graduated today, I am now officially Dr. Sheeran,” Taylor Swift’s bestie captioned the shot.

The school shared a short video of Sheeran congratulating the grads as well. “It’s official – Dr. Ed Sheeran! #UCSgrad #edsheeran,” they wrote alongside the clip.
