Eastern Market meat company is new hot dog distributor at Ford Field

A new hot dog that's all-beef and halal is on the menu starting this season at Ford Field.

Local Eastern market distributor Saad Wholesale Meats, the distributor and owner of the Sharifa Halal brand of products, announced an exclusive partnership deal with the Detroit Lions. At Ford Field, Sharifa Halal hot dogs will be available at all Detroit Lions games and other events at Ford Field.

Halal means "permitted" in  Arabic and refers to Islamic dietary laws requiring a prescribed method of slaughter.

Saad Wholesale Meats also has partnerships with the Detroit Tigers and University of Michigan Athletics and at Emagine Theaters in Michigan to offer Sharifa Halal hots dogs, according to sibling co-owners Mohamed Saad and Samar Saad. The products, Mohamed Saad said, are produced in Michigan. Saad Wholesale Meats has been in business since 1976 and was started by Saad's father, Ares Saad.
