Lots of new restaurants enjoy soft openings.

Pie Town Tacos is experiencing a frozen-hard opening for its East Nashville location.

In a week where most restaurants — and most everything else — in Nashville has shut down because of the MLK weekend snowstorm, Pie Town Tacos started slinging street-style tacos, chorizo bowls and sopapillas Tuesday morning at its new space in the Five Points Alley Shops (1106 Woodland St.).

"We decided to embrace the snow and stick with our planned grand opening day because operationally, we were ready, and our team felt safe and comfortable coming into work," co-owner Jason Crockarell said in an email to The Tennessean.

"I reached out to our new neighbors through social media and word of mouth. Weather events like these have a way of bringing people together, and as a result, we’ve served quite a few people who live or work nearby and wanted to get out in their neighborhood for a bit," he added. "We’re so pleased to connect with our new 5 Points community on this snowy opening day."

Pie Town Tacos took over the Burger & Co. space in East Nashville. The couple that owns Burger & Co., Kristi & Bruce Leigh, are retiring.

The original Pie Town Tacos opened in 2020 at 614 Ewing Ave., in Nashville's Pie Town section, which is a triangle (slice of pie)-shaped neighborhood near downtown between 8th Avenue South, Lafayette Street and I-40.
