VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Heading to the sold-out Hozier show on May 15 in Virginia Beach? Take yourself to church extra early.

Live Nation is warning concertgoers to plan to get there well ahead of the 7:30 show time due to the expected traffic. This comes after some issues last year with fans being able to get to the Veterans United Home Loans Amphitheater, especially the venue’s sold-out Janet Jackson show last May.

To encourage people to get there earlier, Live Nation is holding a pre-party with live entertainment, food and beverages and exclusive access to merch. The first 500 guests will also receive tickets to certain upcoming shows.

Parking opens at 5 and gates open at 5:30 p.m. for the pre-party, which will be at the Entry Plaza and Lake Plaza. The lawn and pavilion at the venue open at 6.

Live Nation also shared these tips for fans:

  • Plan ahead and leave early to avoid rush hour and concert traffic. The closer to show time, the heavier the traffic.

  • Using a rideshare service or carpooling is recommended.

  • Skip the rush and arrive early to enjoy a fun pre-show experience!

  • Check out the wide variety of food options available: Trejo’s Tacos, YNot pizza, the Voltaggio Brothers’ Volt burger, Bad Ass Nachos by Chef Tim Love, chicken strips and sandwiches by Art Bird, Koko’s Bavarian – Austin’s beloved German sausage concept, CVT Soft Serve ice cream, and more.

  • Text “HOZIER” to +1 (757) 993-7301 to get show updates (including weather, traffic, and other show info) right to your phone via text.

Remember this year you’re no longer allowed to take you personal lawn chair into the amphitheater. Live Nation said it was meant to improve security and entry to the venue, though many fans have just called it a money grab.

Hozier is the first artist for the 2024 concert season at the amphitheater. Other performers include Creed, Pitbull and T-Pain and Imagine Dragons. Don’t forget May 8 through May 14 is Live Nation’s Concert Week, with $25 tickets to select shows.
