The Eagles will stop at Prudential Center in Newark as part of their farewell tour

The Eagles are coming to Newark's Prudential Center on Saturday Sept. 16 as part of their "Long Goodbye" farewell tour. Tickets go on sale July 14, 10 a.m.

All of which is good news for anyone not named Jeff Lebowski.

"I hate the [expletive] Eagles," said The Dude (Jeff Bridges) in "The Big Lebowski," when "Peaceful, Easy Feeling" comes on the cab radio. The driver, naturally, screeches to a halt and throws him out.

Millions of Eagles fans would have done no less to anyone who would speak ill of Don Henley, the late Glenn Frey, and the other creators of "Hotel California," "Desperado," "Tequila Sunrise" and "Lyin' Eyes."

If The Dude can't abide The Eagles, he's in the minority.

"We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for embracing this band and its music," said the Eagles — now Don Henley, Joe Walsh, Timothy B. Schmit, with Vince Gill and Deacon Frey — in a written statement.

"At the end of the day, you are the reason we have been able to carry on for over five decades," they said. "This is our swan song, but the music goes on and on.”

The Eagles will also be playing locally at Madison Square Garden (Sept. 7) and the UBS Arena in Belmont Park N.Y. (Sept 20). Opening for them is Steely Dan, also down a man (the late Walter Becker passed in 2017).

The six-time Grammy winning Eagles have been touring for 52 years. More dates may be added to the national tour, wrapping up Nov. 17, depending on the demand.

Though the name "The Long Goodbye" certainly sounds final enough (it was detective writer Raymond Chandler's jaunty term for death), with farewell tours, one never knows. Let's just say, this could be your last chance to see them.

"Our long run has lasted far longer than any of us ever dreamed," they said. "But, everything has its time, and the time has come for us to close the circle."
