Can the Eagles properly utilize Jalen Hurts?

NFL Podcast: Saint Jameis and why Jalen Hurts to the Eagles will be 'Taysom Hill on steroids'

Video Transcript

TEREZ PAYLOR: The Philadelphia Eagles made the waves of day two when they drafted Jalen Hurts, the former Alabama/Oklahoma quarterback, in the second round. Know some Eagles fans, including some on staff, who love the player. They think the world of Jalen Hurts but disheartened by the fact they didn't continue to build up around Carson Wentz.

I think it's a fascinating decision and how happy Doug Peterson looked in his war room after that pick.

CHARLES ROBINSON: Yeah.

TEREZ PAYLOR: I think he's about to have some fun. Like if you're a forward-thinking offense coach, how can you not want to take advantage of his athleticism as a runner and, like, really use, like, real packages with him on the field and Wentz, more than just a gimmick-- like have real packages for it.

CHARLES ROBINSON: I actually had a source who was kind of on the inside of this whole building of the, you know, profile on Jalen Hurts and getting to this point where they made the pick where the source described it as Taysom Hill on steroids.

TEREZ PAYLOR: Oh, that's interesting.

CHARLES ROBINSON: It's going to be a package where--

TEREZ PAYLOR: OK.

CHARLES ROBINSON: --it's really going to be amped up for him.

TEREZ PAYLOR: Yeah.

CHARLES ROBINSON: Basically what I was told was, look, you put Carson Wentz and you put Jalen Hurts in the shotgun back there, and we think both of them can throw the football, obviously.

TEREZ PAYLOR: And catch.

CHARLES ROBINSON: And catch. And now I don't think they're going to really point--

TEREZ PAYLOR: No.

CHARLES ROBINSON: --Carson Wentz at too much risk here, but--

TEREZ PAYLOR: But you can get creative.

CHARLES ROBINSON: Yeah, you can creative.

TEREZ PAYLOR: And you have to account for it.

CHARLES ROBINSON: They can both move. Yeah. There's a lot-- there's a lot that both of them can do.
