B Street − and E Street − are mourning the passing of Glenn Stuart, frontman for the long-running Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band tribute act the B Street Band,

Stuart, a Marlboro native who had been battling lung cancer, died Feb. 28, the band announced. He was 63.

“Our deepest sympathies are with his family as well as the countless hearts that Glenn touched through his life and music,” said the Wall-based B Street Band on Thursday.

The B Street Band started their Springsteen tribute as Backstreets in the early '80s. They've played more than 6,000 times since then, including inauguration parties for Barack Obama and Chris Christie. Multiple members of the E Street Band, including Little Steven Van Zandt, Max Weinberg, Clarence Clemons, Garry Tallent and founding E Street Band member Vini “Mad Dog” Lopez, have played with the B Street Band.

Weinberg sat in with the B Street Band several times recently, including a show at the Hard Rock Hotel in Hollywood, Florida last month and the Congregation Kol Ami in Cherry Hill in March 2023.

“(Stuart) mentioned to me he wasn’t feeling great and was a bit concerned that he wasn’t doing justice to Bruce’s material. The opposite is true,” said Weinberg of the recent show in a message shared on the B Street Band's social media. “He rocked those songs and by the big smile on his face, even that night when he must have been in the throes of his illness, I, and the audience, could tell he was where he wanted to be − onstage with his buddies playing and singing music he adored. You can tell an awful lot about a person when you play music with them.

“While we only did a handful of shows together, I knew from the first gig that he was soulful, spirited, and full of heart and energy. He brought it and never let on how seriously ill he was − certainly not to me. He did more than justice to the material − he nailed those songs and I was delighted to back him up onstage. Though his voice is silenced, his spirit will live on in all of us who were in the room when he and the B Street Band played a show. May his memory be a blessing to you, his family, and all of his loved ones.”

Lopez commented “R I P my Friend. Many shows together with all of the B St Band..!” on a B Street Band post about Stuart's passing and Jarod Clemons, the youngest son of the late Clarence Clemons, shared a remembrance of playing with Stuart and the B Street Band as a 15-year-old.

“I remember my adrenaline coursing through my veins as I climbed behind the drums ready to play for a packed shoulder to shoulder audience,” Clemons said. “I just want to say thank you to Glenn Stuart ... may you rest in peace. My heart goes out to your family. You will be missed dearly.”

Stuart is survived by a wife, son and daughter. A GoFundMe has been established to help defray medical and funeral expenses.
