Dylan Farrow Criticizes Scarlett Johansson for Defending Woody Allen

Dylan Farrow added her voice to those criticizing Scarlett Johansson’s defense of Woody Allen this week, questioning on Twitter whether the “Black Widow” star truly understands the severity of sexual abuse in the entertainment industry.

Johansson caught the ire of #MeToo after The Hollywood Reporter published an interview in which the actress praised the filmmaker, who was accused by his adopted daughter Farrow of sexually assaulting her when she was seven years old. Johansson has appeared in a number of Allen’s films including the 2008 Golden Globe-winning “Vicky Cristina Barcelona.”

“I love Woody. I believe him, and I would work with him anytime,” she said.

Johansson has spoken out in support of #MeToo, calling for more accountability in Hollywood in a speech at the 2018 Women’s March in Los Angeles. But Farrow sees her support of Allen as perpetuating the sort of mentality that #MeToo is trying to fight against.

“Because if we’ve learned anything from the past two years it’s that you definitely should believe male predators who “maintain their innocence” without question,” Farrow tweeted. “Scarlett has a long way to go in understanding the issue she claims to champion.”

Farrow has stepped away from social media recently, with her critical tweet of Johansson being the first post she made on Twitter in nearly a year. On Thursday, she also criticized “The View” co-host Joy Behar for saying on the morning panel show that Allen had been “exonerated by the experts,” calling Behar’s description of the investigation into Farrow’s accusations “utterly false and a truly abhorrent mischaracterization.”

“Surprising that in discussing my case this morning no one mentioned that the prosecutor in my case, after evaluating ALL the evidence, found probable cause to press criminal charges against Woody,” Farrow tweeted. “He chose not to only in order to spare me further trauma.”
