'DWTS' pro Cheryl Burke has been 'sober for two years' after quitting cold turkey

"Dancing with the Stars" pro Cheryl Burke is opening up about a personal milestone.

The professional dancer, 36, revealed on the "LadyGang" podcast Tuesday that she has been sober for "two years" after quitting drinking cold turkey in the middle of a party.

"It was just a decision that I made for myself," said Burke, who married "Boy Meets World" actor Matthew Lawrence in May 2019. "It was during (our) engagement party that … I was just like, I was done."

Burke explained to hosts Keltie Knight, Jac Vanek, and Becca Tobin that she's predisposed to alcoholism because her "dad was an alcoholic."

"So either I was gonna crash and burn and check myself into rehab or I was gonna just quit cold turkey," Burke said. "That's just my personality. It's either black or white."

Cheryl Burke, at the 2017 People's Choice Awards, is now married.

Burke is currently competing on Season 29 of "DWTS" with the Backstreet Boys' AJ McLean, who suffered from drug and alcohol addiction at the peak of his career.

"That's why I really wanted AJ, because for him to be maybe partnered with someone who is still fresh in the scene or likes to go out, I was a little worried just as a friend," Burke explained. "But then I'm glad we're partnered up together."

Burke said the dancing duo instantly "bonded right away" over their sobriety.

"AJ also has influenced me in a positive way with him being sober and we can talk therapy talk,” Burke told Us Weekly Monday. "We go pretty deep to where I almost sometimes feel like the producers, they’re probably like, ‘These people! Therapy 101!’ Really, it’s great because I like to spend time with people who I can really talk to on that deep, deep level."

Burke and McLean have since launched the “Pretty Messed Up” podcast together to "sort through life, love, ups, downs, friends, frenemies, and the Rumba," reads a description.
