Alfonso Ribeiro’s family is strict about their diet.

The family embarked on a new way of eating 8 years ago after “a health situation with one of my kids…my little dude,” the Dancing with the Stars host told Tamron Hall on Monday’s episode of her talk show. “He had a health issue and we learned how to feed him," he said,

Ribeiro, 52, didn’t share specifics of the health struggle, but said the entire family now eats “non-toxic” foods so their son can live “pain-free.” The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air alum shares daughter Ava Sue, 4, and sons Anders Reyn, 8, and Alfonso "AJ" Lincoln, 9, with wife Angela. Ribeiro is also dad to 20-year-old daughter Sienna from a previous relationship.

“We live a completely non-toxic life where we don’t eat any sugar, gluten-free, corn-free, dairy-free, oats-free, anything that makes you swollen, we typically stay away from,” Ribeiro said.

He continued to speak about the importance of food quality: “It is so crazy, like, we will all put 'super unleaded' in our cars but we’ll put below 'regular' in our bodies, right? And you wonder why we have so much cancer and just health issues."

"People are always in pain. [Since] learning how to eat properly, I am no longer in pain,” he said. “I live a virtually pain-free life because nothing’s swollen, right?”

And according to the National Institute of Health, ultra-processed foods (UPF) may create an inflammatory state in the body: "Increased consumption of UPF, which through different mechanisms, may contribute to promote a proinflammatory state."

But while the family has made changes like swapping out processed sugar for coconut sugar or honey, Ribeiro says his family isn’t missing out on any tasty treats — thanks to wife Angela, 42, who he says makes delicious dairy-free apple pie and healthier versions of Rice Krispies treats.

“I have some of the best desserts ever because my wife makes it. Like, we’re looking to make a cookbook because, like, the way she makes the cakes,” he raved. “If my kids go to a birthday party, the other kids will have whatever they’re eating, my wife brings her cupcakes for the kids to eat.”

“We had a party a little while back and a bunch of the people at the party were like, ‘Can we have more of that cake? I know that there’s another cake but can we have her cake?’”

“They’re so delicious, and there’s no sugar,” Ribeiro said. And as Hall showed some pictures of her desserts, he quipped to the audience, “Y’all gonna be hungry in a little bit!”
