Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is doing something every son dreads: Prepare for his father's funeral. In an Instagram post on Monday, Johnson revealed that he wrote a eulogy for his father, Rocky Johnson, and that it was something for which he was not prepared.
"This was fun. Written a lot of things over the years, but nothing prepared me for this one. #eulogy #mydad #soulman," he captioned a photo of a notepad.
"Listen to his favorite music. Hopefully that can help get in touch with certain thoughts or emotions. R.I.P Rocky. Keep rocking on Dwayne!" one follower suggested.
"Not easy at all. Thoughts and prayers for you and the family," another wrote.
"Goddam, a greater burden I cannot imagine. Nothing but love and support," a third replied.
Rocky died on Wednesday at age 75 from a heart attack. In a post last week, Johnson talked about attempting to write a eulogy for his dad.
"I've written a lot of speeches for myself over the years but I have no idea where to start with this one," he said. "But I do have my tequila and I can hear him now, 'Good that's the way you gotta do it,' and I can also hear him now 'Make sure you put me over in the speech – say good stuff about me.' For those of you who knows my dad you know that he would say, 'You tell them I taught you everything you know, but I didn't teach you everything I know.'"
On Friday, he shared a long, heartfelt message for his dad.
"I love you.You broke color barriers, became a ring legend and trail blazed your way thru this world.I was the boy sitting in the seats, watching and adoring you, my hero from afar. The boy you raised to always be proud of our cultures and proud of who and what I am.The boy you raised with the toughest of love. The intense work. The hard hand. The adoring boy who wanted to know only your best qualities.Who then grew to become a man realizing you had other deeply complicated sides that needed to be held and understood.Son to father.Man to man," he wrote.
"That’s when my adoration turned to respect. And my empathy turned to gratitude.Grateful that you gave me life.Grateful you gave me life’s invaluable lessons," the message continued."Dad, I wish I had one more shot to tell you, I love you, before you crossed over to the other side. But you were ripped away from me so fast without warning.Gone in an instant and no coming back.Im in pain. But we both know it’s just pain and it’ll pass. Now I’ll carry your mana and work ethic with me, as it’s time to move on because I have my family to feed and work to accomplish. Finally, I want you to rest your trailblazing soul, Soulman.Pain free, regret free, satisfied and at ease. You lived a very full, very hard, barrier breaking life and left it all in the ring.I love you dad and I’ll always be your proud and grateful son.Go rest high."
