Dwayne Johnson Tweets Out a New Clip From 'Moana' — That Includes a Twitter Gag

No matter how busy he gets, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson always finds time to post social-media exclusives about his projects to his legion of online fans. His next movie headed our way is Disney’s animated adventure Moana, and to continue stoking anticipation for the high-profile family film, he’s now debuted a new clip that keeps the focus on his larger-than-life character, demigod Maui.

In the one-minute scene, we get a glimpse at Maui instructing his unlikely new comrade Moana (Auli’I Cravalho) on exactly how he prefers to be addressed. Suffice it to say, this lecture doesn’t sit well with the feisty heroine, who seems more than a bit exasperated when her supernaturally powered new acquaintance reveals an ego almost as big as his muscles. Ending with a gag about Twitter (in a clip debuting on Twitter? Synergy!), this quick sequence reconfirms that Moana will be rooted in the contentious dynamic shared by its two leads, and will boast some of the finest CGI animation yet produced by Disney.

Johnson’s latest bit of online promotion comes on the heels of this weekend’s unveiling by Hawaiian Airlines of the first of three custom aircrafts decorated with artwork from Moana. The planes, which will feature images of Maui, Moana, and her friends Pua the pig and Heihei the rooster, will take flight on a variety of U.S. routes, including those to Australia, New Zealand, and Japan – and will feature Moana-themed in-flight items as well.

Clearly, the Disney promotional efforts are beginning in earnest, now that their latest is fast approaching its premiere. Featuring the voices of Johnson, Cravalho, Temuera Morrison, Nicole Scherzinger, Rachel House, Jemaine Clement, and Alan Tudyk, Moana arrives in theaters on Nov. 23.
