A major road into Durban was blocked by a group made up of local performance artists, reports on September 2 said, who were demanding an easing of coronavirus restrictions related to attendance at venues.
Protesters performed from the back of a truck blocking the N3 road, video showed, before police moved in with tear gas and what a reporter at the scene said were “stun grenades and rubber bullets”.
Dasen Thathiah, a reporter with eNCA, said, “Durban music artists are staging a protest against, among other things, lockdown regulations limiting the number of people allowed at venues. They say it is impacting their pockets, as many have been out of work these past few months.”
In his videos, people are seen carrying signs asking for 70 percent attendance capacity “at all events”.
