Hit the restrooms before the lights dim if you're seeing the second "Dune" film this weekend — it's even longer than the last one.

Some people can probably make it through the film without interruption, but your ability to do so could depend on both your age and your gender. Medical research has shown that women tend to go more frequently than men.

And as you age, the National Institute on Aging says the bladder becomes less flexible and can't hold as much, making you feel the need to go more often. NIA also said too much alcohol and caffeine can cause more frequent urination, or a more urgent need to urinate.

It's not a good idea to dehydrate yourself to avoid bathroom breaks during a movie. Severe dehydration can cause problems like confusion and fainting, according to National Institutes of Health resources — meaning you might miss something important on the screen, anyway.

How long is the 'Dune' sequel?

AMC's website lists the movie's run time at 2 hours and 46 minutes. That's slightly longer than the first film in the series, which was 2 hours and 35 minutes, according to IMDB. But it's still shorter than "Titanic," which came in at 3:15.

When should I take a bathroom break during 'Dune 2?'

The app RunPee offers suggestions for when you can duck out for a break and not miss anything crucial. Below are a few "Peetimes" the app recommends:

  • At 30:20, when Stilgar says "But it is true. Don't listen to them."

  • At 46:30, when Chani says to Paul "Maybe I'll show you the way." This was ranked as the most preferred time to take a bathroom break.

  • At 1:20:40, when Baron Harkonnen says "The Emperor helped me destroy the Atredies."

  • At 1:59:10 when Paul says "...so this is how we'll survive." The app noted that there's an important scene right after this, so make it quick.

When is 'Dune: Part Two' in theaters?

The follow-up to the 2021 film starring Timothee Chalamet and Zendaya is in theaters starting Friday, March 1. Find showtimes and ticket options at dunemovie.com.

Read the 'Dune' books

Frank Herbert's book series takes longer to get through than the six hours that have made it to the big screen so far. It's six novels published between 1965 and 1985, a year before Herbert's death. His son, Brian Herbert, coauthored additional books as part of the Dune universe, according to dunenovels.com.

The two also are adapting 'Dune' into a graphic novel series, with the first volume published in 2020. Volume 3 is anticipated in summer 2024, according to the series website.

If you're just starting, you can check out or reserve the first novel at the Indianapolis Public Library as a book, audiobook CD, ebook or downloadable audiobook.
