Dune” is here! The highly anticipated sci-fi flick arrived on HBO Max on Thursday at 6pm ET, the same time theatrical screenings got underway. Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, David Bautista, and Jason Momoa star in the film adaptation of Frank Herbert’s best-selling novels.

Academy Award-nominated director Denis Villeneuve (“Arrival,” “Blade Runner 2049”) helmed the film centered around Paul Atreides (Chalamet), an heir of the planet Caladan who, along with his father Leto Atreides and others, gains ownership of the deserted and dangerous planet of Arrakis (also known as Dune), home to a priceless spice that extends human life and unlocks your greatest potential. Along the way, the group’s mission is hampered by conflict, betrayal, and giant sand worms.

“Dune” covers the first half of Frank Herbert’s book of the same name, and while post-pandemic activities have found moviegoers returning to theaters, some still prefer watching new movies from home (or having the option to watch in theaters and online). To stream “Dune” from home you’ll need to be signed up for the HBO Max ad-free plan. The membership costs $14.99 a month (or $149.99 a year), but there are at least a few ways to access HBO Max at no extra charge.

If you’re subscribed to Direct TV Stream and already have HBO in your channel lineup, then you can access HBO Max ad-free content at no extra charge. For those who haven’t joined Direct TV Stream, here’s a little incentive: New subscribers will receive free HBO Max for three months under the Ultimate, Choice, and Premier Plans. HBO Max is also free to customers with AT&T’s Fiber internet plan.

Take HBO Max on the go or watch from your couch. Just download the app (available on Google Play, Amazon App Store, Roku Channel, Samsung TV, and more) to instantly stream the platform on TV, smart phones, computers, gaming consoles, notebooks, and tablets.

“Dune” is one of the last few films (along with “King Richard” on November 19, and “The Matrix Resurrections” on December 22) in the long list of 2021 Warner Bros. movies that were released simultaneously in theaters and on HBO Max.

Aside from in-theater movies, HBO Max houses a number of original series such as “Succession,” “Insecure,” “The White Lotus,” “Euphoria,” “The Flight Attendant,” “Game of Thrones,” “Titans,” and “Curb Your Enthusiasm.” The platform features countless hours of content for movie lovers, including cult classics, blockbusters, kid-friendly movies, and HBO and HBO Max exclusive documentaries and documentary series such as “What Happened, Brittney Murphy?,” “The Inventor Out for Blood in Silicon Valley,” “I’ll Be Gone in the Dark,” “The Price of Freedom,” “McMillion$”, “The Jinx,” “Being Serena,” “Back on the Record with Bob Costas,” and the critically acclaimed “Hard Knocks.”
