The Duggars Stick To Their Dress Code At The Beach According To Jana's Instagram

A Strict Upbringing

Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar have been reality TV show regulars since their show, 19 Kids And Counting, became a TLC megahit. Viewers were fascinated by their fundamentalist Christian beliefs that manifested in how they raised their children: everyone was homeschooled, they dressed VERY conservatively, the boys and girls were raised for very different purposes, and their "dating" consisted of heavily supervised "courtships."

Not Very Beachy

The long denim skirts and ever present sleeves for the girls was modest in the extreme, and according to a new Instagram story from Jana Duggar, that covered up attitude even extends to the beach. The family recently went out to California to visit Jinger and her family, and while they hit the sands, the dress code remained intact.

Going to the beach is a rarity for the family according to mom Michelle.

"We typically don’t go to the beach in the summertime. And in general we don’t do a lot of swimming events where swimming suits are worn because it’s just too hard for the guys to try to keep their eyes averted in those situations."

Their Eldest Daughters Are Branching Out

Now that they're branching out and starting their own families, the eldest daughters like Jinger and Jana aren't quite as conservative in their dress. You might even catch a flash of a knee or shoulder! While they're still deeply influenced by their family's specific kind of upbringing, they're obviously ready to take a more modern approach.
