Duchess Meghan, Prince Harry share royal baby Archie's christening photos

Master Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, the newborn son of Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan of Sussex, has been christened.

Buckingham Palace shared photos of the royal family after the small, secluded ceremony in the monarch's Private Chapel at Windsor Castle on Saturday. The christening is a religious ceremony marking the baby's entry into the Anglican communion.

In the photo, taken by photographer Chris Allerton, Meghan is holding baby Archie while she gazes at Harry, smiling.

In a second photo, more of the guests are pictured, including Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, Prince Charles, Meghan's mother Doria Ragland, Prince William and Duchess Kate.

The Archbishop of Canterbury performed the baptism ceremony, which the palace announced ahead of time on Wednesday, welcoming Queen Elizabeth II's eighth great-grandchild into the Church of England.

This rite of royal passage for Archie, the first ever half-American, biracial child born into the British royal family, comes exactly two months after his birth on May 6.

The names of the godparents, or even how many godparents were chosen, will not be announced.

"The godparents, in keeping with (the couple's) wishes, will remain private," the palace announcement said.

Archie's christening, which has been under an almost total news blackout, differs from the recent christening of Prince William and Duchess Kate's three children.

Although royal christenings are typically private in terms of the ritual, they're usually preceded by a brief photo op as the parents, baby and their guests arrive, especially if the queen is present. And the names of the godparents typically are made public.
