Dua Lipa's New Album Era Includes Bleached Brows

Her brow hairs went houdini.

At this point in time, it's par for the course that a celebrity changes their hairstyle when announcing a new album. Camila Cabello just did it (she's blonde!), Taylor Swift has done it (cue the "1989" TikTok sound), and Dua Lipa is fully integrated into her most-recent change-up: the cherry cola red shade she premiered last October.

The surprise, then, comes when a star reveals there's something more to an era. While I thought the trendy hair was the extent of Lipa's Radical Optimism album brand, it turns out we have something else to look forward to: bleached brows.

On April 3, the singer shared a reel to her Instagram page titled "album moments." "I hear you… feeling optimistic about this week," she wrote in the caption. The video contained a number of clips from shoots related to the new record, and in some her brows were nowhere to be seen. The trippy photoshoot (you know when a mirror comes out as a prop that something interesting will happen) came complete with a bedazzled bikini, wet hair, and silver chrome manicure.

"Brow bleaching lifts pigment (melanin) and keratin in the hair to lighten the color," makeup artist Monica Ninh previously told Byrdie. Seen on numerous runway models and celebs like Julia Fox and Kendall Jenner, the trend has been around for the past few summers (and even longer than that—Queen Elizabeth I was a fan of plucking or shaving her brow hairs). With Lipa on board now, I don't think it's going anywhere anytime soon.

The superstar has bleached her brows before. In August 2023, she showed off pale yellow brows (and microbangs??) for a French Vogue shoot. However, the look didn't last any longer than the cameras were up. Soon enough she was back to her signature dark style, the idea of red locks probably already in the back of her head.

Because Lipa also wears her brows naturally in the new reel, I'm not sure what her plans with the bleach entail. Will she go back and forth? It doesn't sound healthy, but...maybe? Training season may be over, but bleaching season isn't.
