DSO presents 'Behind the Mask'

Oct. 7—The Danville Symphony Orchestra is kicking off its 2023-2024 season with "Behind the Mask — The Music of Broadway!" in the Dick Van Dyke Auditorium at Danville High School.

On Saturday, Oct. 14 at 7:30 p.m., guest conductor and candidate for the DSO's next music director, Richard Zielinski, will lead the DSO in its opening concert of Broadway favorites. Music for this concert will include the works of Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber and other Broadway notables, with selections from Phantom of the Opera, Cats, Evita, Jersey Boys, and more. Destan Owens, Teri Hansen, and Kanisha Feliciano from Broadway Pops International will be the guest artists.

"I am excited to embark on our journey to embrace a new conductor for the DSO," said DSO Executive Director Kay Welch. "It is a new beginning, and it is going to take someone very special to help us embrace this change. We are so fortunate to have our own orchestra and we want to be open to all that this new chapter will bring to the symphony and to our community. I want us to show Danville that the symphony is fun for everyone."

Tickets are still available for the Oct. 14 concert, with seats remaining on the main floor and balcony for $35 and $45. Students with a valid ID can buy tickets for $10.

Tickets may be purchased online at danvillesymphony.org, or by calling (217) 443-5300. Tickets are also available at the DSO office at 715 W. Fairchild St., Danville, from 1-5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
