Drug Kingpin El Chapo Says 'There Was No Justice' After Getting Life In Prison

Mexican drug lord, El Chapo, will spend the rest of his life behind bars after getting sentenced in federal court.

Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman was sentenced to life in prison plus 30 years, according to the US Attorney for the Eastern District of New York.

The kingpin, who was present in the Brooklyn courthouse, was also ordered to pay $12.6 Billion in forfeiture. An amount in restitution will be determined at a later date.

After his sentencing, El Chapo addressed the court and said, "there was no justice here."

He wore a gray suit and dark tie and spoke for around 10 minutes. Along with the court proceedings, El Chapo complained about the conditions while being held in custody.

"It’s been torture, the most inhumane situation I have lived in my entire life," the drug lord explained, adding, "It has been physical, emotional and mental torture."

El Chapo had been charged with 10 felony counts, including murder, drug trafficking and firearm charges.

During the trial for the infamous Mexican drug cartel leader, jurors heard over 200 hours of testimony from 56 hours. Many of the witnesses were former traffickers and associates of Chapo who were cooperating with officials.

During the court proceedings, El Chapo's wife, Emma Coronel Aispuro, regularly attended the hearings and became a star with the media.

Aispuro is somewhat of a socialite in Mexico, and is often seen posing in a bikini on social media.

Aispuro was showing off her opulent lifestyle. She was also balancing being mom, and even threw her daughter with El Chapo a Barbie themed birthday party while he sat in jail.
