‘My Drinking Has Gotten A Little Out Of Hand,’ Admits Woman With Cirrhosis Of The Liver

Michaela says she’s been raising her 17-year-old sister for the last two years because their mother, Janie, is alcohol dependent and can’t hold down a job. “For the past ten years, my drinking has gotten a little out of hand,” Janie admits, adding, “I drink because I’ve been depressed.” Michaela claims that Janie, who has cirrhosis of the liver, has continued to drink alcohol despite doctors’ warnings that it will kill her. Janie says, “I know it’s hurting my health, but sometimes I felt like I was invincible.” Janie claims she hasn’t had any alcohol since she got a DUI over a month ago but says she knows that her family doesn’t believe her.
