Every once in a while, a beautiful collaboration comes along that reminds us there is such a thing as perfect harmony: macaroni and cheese; Sonny and Cher; dogs and water hoses. This St. Patrick's Day, you should add ice cream and stout to that list. Captain Lawrence Brewing and Carvel Ice Cream collaborated for the perfect crossover, the Cookie O'Puss stout beer. Do I have some feelings about that name? Sure. But I'll ignore them, because the concoction itself is so good.

In a joint press release, the companies described the Cookie O'Puss stout as a beer that "carries heavier notes of cacao and roasted undertones," while being brewed with Carvel's signature "chocolate crunchies." When I tried it, I noticed that a sweet chocolate surprise pops up at the end on the taste buds.

The heaviness of the beer also makes for a perfect homage to St. Patrick's Day. Guinness is all fine and good, but is it made with chocolate crunchies? I think not. The pint-sized can comes in at 8 percent ABV, packing quite a punch for a stout.

The Cookie O'Puss stout was debuted alongside a Cookie Puss Birthday Beer from Captain Lawrence and Carvel, which is billed as a Milkshake IPA. Both of the featured beers were released as part of Carvel's 85th birthday celebration and are being sold for a limited time. Cookie O'Puss is available all up and down the East Coast, but Cookie Puss Birthday Beer is only available in New York state. So keep your eyes out for the green and purple cans, and grab them while they last. It's about time we celebrated St. Patrick's Day with more dessert, especially if it is in a drinkable state.
