Drew Barrymore's daughter brought up her “Playboy” cover when told she couldn't wear crop tops

The former self-proclaimed wild child speaks to Christina Aguilera about raising daughters.

Drew Barrymore's self-proclaimed "wild child" past came back to bite her in the a-- when she tried to veto crop tops in her daughter's wardrobe.

On Tuesday's episode of her eponymous talk show (above), Barrymore caught up with pop star Christina Aguilera on location at her Las Vegas residency to chat about the challenges of raising daughters. "My daughter wants to wear a crop top, I’ll say, ‘no,' and she’ll go, ‘You were on the cover of Playboy,'" Barrymore recalled.

"I love that she said that," Aguilera said with a laugh. "I knew it was coming the day I wore chaps. My daughter wants to wear a crop top too. And I am just like, 'Can we just pull it down?' I see myself doing that. But I think I always try to instill in her that certain people out there have good intentions and bad intentions."

She continued, "I don’t want to scare her [to] be terrified of the world, that everybody is a bad person. But also, I think it’s important for her to have a strong sense of self and be very empowered with her body, eventually her sexuality. So I want her to just really know herself first."

Aguilera noted that the chaps — and for Barrymore, the cover of Playboy — were "empowering" choices for the both of them at the time. "We were expressing ourselves and how we felt was best for us." Barrymore, who graced the cover of Playboy in 1995, said she "loved every minute" of it.

"We didn’t do it for someone else and then there are so many labels and judgments," Aguilera added. "It’s empowering being a female and embracing your body, and everything that makes you feel good or womanly. However, that is for yourself to be able to embrace that."

Barrymore shares two young daughters, Olive and Frankie, with ex-husband Will Kopelman, while Aguilera shares daughter Summer Rain with fiancé Matt Rutler. The pop star is also mom to son Max Liron, whom she shares with ex-husband Jordan Bratman. Elsewhere on the show, Aguilera called herself a "helicopter mom."

"I'm so protective," she told Barrymore, adding of her daughter, "She knows I get nervous before shows and she’ll take my hand, she’s so proud, ‘You’re going to do great mama, you’re going to do amazing. I just know it.’ ... My son too, who is now 15, teaches me so many things every day. We are like the same person in so many ways."
