Drew Barrymore Says She and Adam Sandler 'Text All the Time': 'We're So Close'

The pair have been friends for years and have starred in multiple movies together

Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler are still the best of friends.

Barrymore, 48, and Sandler, 57, have starred in movies like The Wedding Singer (1998), 50 First Dates (2004) and Blended (2014) together over the years, and Barrymore is desperate to do more.

"We're so close. We text all the time. We see each other. We text," the Drew Barrymore Show host told Entertainment Tonight.

Barrymore also wants their mutual friend Jennifer Aniston to join them in an upcoming flick.

"I'm so busy talking to him and Jennifer Aniston about doing a threefer, if you will," the Charlie's Angels star continued. "I really want to make it happen. Timing is everything."

Barrymore has some ideas when it comes to the movie she wants to make with Sandler and Aniston, and she has a couple of remakes in mind.

"I keep pitching Death Becomes Her. We've talked about Three's Company. Maybe it's something original. I don't know. There's lots of fun ideas," Barrymore said.

"You know, when you wish for something so much you don't even care if saying it out loud will jinx it? You're like, 'I don't even care. I'm just gonna say it. It's too fun to dream about,' " she went on.

"We're all producers, so we all have companies. We can make this happen. I think it's a matter of timing."

Barrymore and Aniston starred in He's Just Not That Into You (2009) together, while Sandler and Aniston teamed up for Just Go With It (2011), Murder Mystery (2019) and Murder Mystery 2 (2023).

Aniston and Barrymore both turned up to honor their friend Sandler as he received the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor at the Kennedy Center last March.

While speaking to PEOPLE ahead of the ceremony, Barrymore said that she and Sandler's bond is "all based in like, love, admiration and humor."

"You know, I just always believed in him so much. And not that my opinion matters. But I just felt like, this is the guy," she continued. "This is the one all us women were so in love with him on SNL and you know, I love Happy Gilmore and Billy Madison, comedians create their own brand, their own flavor and scent and, you know, ideal around them, that is not easy to do."

"It's like creating a tapestry that is so distinct unto themselves. And I was so there for what Adam Sandler was putting out into the wild that I just wanted to be next to it," Barrymore added.

"I wanted some place to put my admiration and I thought a film was the most safe and cathartic place to do it," she said of her working relationship with Sandler.
