Drew Barrymore Recalls Meeting 'Wonderful' Robin Williams at Age 7: 'He Means So Much to So Many People'

The actress shared the moment with the late comedian's daughter, Zelda Williams, on 'The Drew Barrymore Show'

Robin Williams left a mark on a young Drew Barrymore.

On The Drew Barrymore Show on Tuesday, the host, 48, was joined by Kathryn Newton, Cole Sprouse and Robin’s daughter, Zelda Williams, to discuss the trio’s film — and Zelda’s directorial debut — Lisa Frankenstein.

While chatting with Zelda, Barrymore recalled the first time she met the legendary actor and comedian when she was a rising child actor.

After sharing that Zelda, 34, was Robin’s child to a round of applause from the audience, Zelda told the host that she looked “emotional.”

“Because he means so much to so many people,” Barrymore replied.

The Wedding Singer star went on to share that she first crossed paths with the late comedian when she was 7 years old, just months after she made her big-screen debut in E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial.

"I got the privilege of meeting him for the first time when I was 7 in 1982. [E.T. director] Steven Spielberg brought him to Saturday Night Live that I was hosting,” she recalled to awe from her guests, who couldn’t believe she hosted at that age.

“Still the youngest host, yes!” Barrymore exclaimed with a fist pump.

And, at just 7 years old, the actress said she was not scared to take the SNL stage — until Robin arrived, that is.

"But I wasn’t nervous until your dad came, and then I got nervous,” the host said. “He’s so wonderful and he has put so much beauty into this world. And he means so much to people.”

"I’m so thrilled that you’re continuing to carry out your family legacy,” Barrymore added.

At the Los Angeles premiere of Lisa Frankenstein premiere on Monday, Zelda chatted with PEOPLE about her directorial debut and revealed that directing a script from Diablo Cody (Juno, Jennifer's Body) was a "really daunting" task.

"I think that was the thing that scared me most as far as tone goes," Zelda told PEOPLE. "Starting with a campy comedy can be really daunting. But I'm very grateful. We had such a good time."

Ahead of the film’s release, Cody told PEOPLE that "Zelda is a really captivating person because she is so intelligent, she's so literate in film and she's so direct and confident in a way that directors need to be.”

"The very first time we met, I thought to myself, 'I can't believe this person has never directed a feature before, because I feel like I'm meeting someone who's 10 films in,’ “ she added. “It was that confidence that drew me to her and also just that she had such an innate understanding of the source material."
