Drew Barrymore recently expressed a strong opinion about a routine dental health exam that many of her fans could relate to.

The talk show host made her bold confession while discussing dental hygiene during an episode of The Drew Barrymore Show that aired this week. While chatting with her co-host, Ross Mathews, about a Minneapolis-based dentist who uses their dog as an anti-anxiety tool for nervous patients who need to get their teeth cleaned, Barrymore revealed her honest thoughts about going to a dental office.

“Every time I go to the dentist, I’m like, ‘Break out the gas, the needle—like, can you put me in twilight?’” the 50 First Dates star said. “It’s so miserable and painful. I have really sensitive teeth.”

The Wedding Singer actress went on to explain what she thinks about how her teeth look. “I have, like, crooked, yellow, nasty old teeth,” Barrymore, 49, told Mathews. "I do. I don’t have those gorgeous, chomper pearly whites.”

The Fever Pitch star then took a quick poll of her audience to assess how many people could relate to the anxiety she feels about dental office visits.

“Anyone else here would just rather eat glass than go to the dentist?” she asked. Several people in the audience raised their hands in response.

The Minneapolis dental office that prompted Barrymore’s discussion with Mathews explained how it came to involve dogs while speaking with reporters earlier this year, according to The Decider. After adopting a family dog during the COVID-19 pandemic, dental hygienist April Kline brought her four-legged family member in to keep her nervous husband company during a teeth cleaning last year, according to The New York Post. Their dog was soothing enough to inspire Kline to replicate the experience for other patients who share similar feelings of anxiety.
