Drake And SZA Get Brutally Honest On New Single “Slime You Out”

Drake and SZA have skyrocketed in popularity over the course of their careers due to their honest, relatable songwriting. The two have now joined forces and brought that talent to new single “Slime You Out” which will appear on the Toronto superstar’s forthcoming album For All The Dogs.

The track arrived on Friday (Sept. 15) and deviated from the 36-year-old rapper’s normal pattern when it comes to his pre-album singles. He traded in the usual higher-energy bop for a 5-minute ballad loaded with spite toward women.

“I don’t know, I don’t know what’s wrong with you girls,” he speaks to open the record. “I feel like y’all don’t need love. You need somebody who could micromanage you, you know what I’m saying? Tell you right from wrong. Who’s smart from who’s a fool, which utensil to use for which food. Like, I got a schedule to attend to though.”

The father of one begins singing thirty seconds in, saying “You bi**hes really get carried away/ Making mistakes then you beg me to stay/ Got me wigging on you like I’m Arrogant Tae/ You got my mind in a terrible place.” Later on, he makes reference to the cover art featuring Halle Berry with slime on her face at the 2012 Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards when he sings “I’m sliming you for them Kids’ Choices you made.”

Drake introduces SZA to the record almost two minutes in, singing “And my slime right here, she got some bars for y’all ni**as/ So imma fall back and let SZA talk her sh*t for a minute/ Sliming you out, sliming you out/ Slime.”

The SOS artist matches Drizzy’s energy, but of course, her vitriol was aimed at men. “Damn, these ni**as got me so twisted/ How the f**k you so real, but play bi**h on my line? I can feel what you spendin’/ Got too much pride to let no burnt ni**a slime me out,” she sings. Later in her verse, she calls the same man out for claiming he doesn’t cuddle or “trick” on women even though he does both of those things for her.

In essence, this is everything fans would want from a song by these two, who have no filter when it comes to matters of the heart and the difficulties they have navigated in interpersonal relationships. If all of that wasn’t enough, the Her Loss artist closes the song with a rap verse giving a month-by-month prediction of how his former lover’s year is going to go before she comes back to him.

“Yeah, January, you pretend to see life clearly, yearly/ February is the time that you put the evil eye and the pride aside/ For the fantasy of gettin’ married, very scary/ March got you already second guessin’ titles/ April, Spring is here and just like a spring you start to spiral,” Drake says. Drake initially announced the record on Monday (Sept. 11) during the Texas leg of his It’s All A Blur tour with 21 Savage, telling fans that he had a song for them as the Sept. 22 release of For All The Dogs draws near. On Wednesday (Sept. 13), he confirmed the record via Instagram, posting a photo of Halle Berry covered in slime with a parental advisory at the bottom. Fans immediately noticed that SZA was tagged in the picture and wondered if she would be featured.

SZA followed up with her own post of the same cover art, confirming her first appearance on a song with the Degrassi actor, much to the delight of fans. The next day, (Thursday, Sept. 14), they revealed the song’s title, with The 6 God posting a screenshot of the duo on Facetime to his Instagram story and the caption reading “SLIME YOU OUT ft. @sza dropping tmrw at noon.”

This record follows Drake’s April release “Search & Rescue” and a successful year for SZA, whose December 2022 album SOS spent 10 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. Listen to SOS below.
