'Drag Night at La Cage' to be held after opening-night of 'La Cage aux Folles' by SB Civic

SOUTH BEND — “La Cage aux Folles” opens Feb. 2 and continues through Feb. 11 at South Bend Civic Theatre, 403 N. Main St.

With a book by Harvey Fierstein, music and lyrics by Jerry Herman, and based on the play by Jean Poiret, the 1984 Tony Award-winning musical inspired the 1996 movie “The Birdcage.”

“La Cage aux Folles” follows the story of Georges, the manager of a Saint-Tropez nightclub featuring drag entertainment, and Albin, his romantic partner and star attraction.

Farcical adventures ensue when their son brings home his fiancée and future in-laws … including an ultra-conservative politician.

Written by Harvey Fierstein, Jean Poiret and Jerry Herman, it features the anthem “I Am What I AM.”

Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 2-3 and 8-10 and at 2 p.m. Feb. 4 and 11.

Tickets are $35-$27.

Civic also has the following events scheduled to coincide with the production:

• “Drag Night at La Cage”: Presented by Civic and The LQBTQ Center following the opening-night performance of “La Cage aux Folles,” this separately-ticketed 10:30 p.m. show will feature regional performers Kendyll Harding, Mia Cole, and Sasha Banks; local performers Dante Kyng and Kaiden James; and drag bingo.

VIP tickets include premium seating and a bingo card.

Admission is limited to those 18 and older.

Tickets are $20-$10, and proceeds will benefit The LGBTQ Center and Civic.
