It may be spooky season but ’tis the season for meteor showers, too!

October is an exciting time for space activity, between the approaching solar eclipse and the Hunter's Moon, but throughout the month, shooting stars will soar through the sky because two meteor showers will be in effect.

The Draconids mark the first shower of the month — beginning on Oct. 6, peaking around Oct. 8-9 and ending on Oct. 10. Towards the month's end, the Orionids will see its peak around Oct. 21-22.

Fortunately, for those looking to catch a glimpse of the shooting stars, the moon will be in its new moon phase, preventing light pollution from drowning out the extraterrestrial Draconids display. Therefore, be alert if the Dragon awakens!

The Draconids, which appear to radiate from the Draco constellation, have the potential to spit forth tens of thousands of fiery stars across the night sky in a rare occurrence known as a meteor storm. (A storm of that caliber hasn't happened since 1946!)

Meteor showers in general have astrological significance as well; though, astrologer Kyle Thomas tells PEOPLE that they "don't have exact astrological relevance" like new moons and full moons do. However, he says "seeing a meteor shower or shooting star is always indicative of luck, synchronicity and good fortune."

Furthermore, meteor showers have extra astrological relevance based on the constellation from which they appear to radiate, notes Thomas — known for his cosmic guidance for celebrities, business executives and prominent influencers. In the Draconids' case, its radiant is the aforementioned Draco constellation in the northern sky.

To find out what the Draconids means in astrology and which zodiac sign this meteor shower aligns with, according to Thomas' readings, read on!

In comparison to moon phases, meteor showers don't have specific significance per zodiac sign as moon phases do — however, they can be viewed from an astrological and esoteric perspective. (Why do you think there's that phrase, "Wish upon a star?")

According to Thomas — who's been studying mythology and astrology since he was eight years old — spotting a meteor shower or shooting star is "always indicative of luck, synchronicity, and good fortune."

Why? He says that "the reason people believe to 'wish on a shooting star' is because it has been said for many years throughout time that these moments are rare, thus giving someone a boost of luck."

Typically, Thomas says the Draconids fall within the Aquarius constellation. This is another way of determining a shooting star's additional relevance in relation to the zodiac wheel.

Since the Draconids happen within the Aquarius constellation, Thomas says "the Aquarian ideas of 'the future, community, aspirations, hopes, dreams, freedom and revolution' would be more closely tied to it."

Furthermore, Thomas says Draco "was the embodiment of the myth of protection," especially in regard to "hidden treasure." Symbolically, this "hidden treasure" could be either physical (like wealth) or spiritual (like wisdom), he explains.

Therefore, Thomas says the Draconids "can help us to unlock and find whatever hidden treasure we are desiring."

A longtime studier of mythology, Thomas says that there's some "fascinating information" about Draco as a constellation, which has been "envisioned as a dragon, serpent or snake."

Centuries ago, Thomas says the Babylonians "worshipped the constellation while Christian mythology correlated it to the snake in the Garden of Eden." To the Egyptians, he says "it was the Crocodile that devoured those whose hearts were heavy" — and to the Greeks, he says "it was the dragon that guarded the golden apples in the Garden of Hesperides."

Symbolically, Thomas says Draco "was a guardian that coils and never sleeps nor sets, and protects the greatest treasures of life and divinity, as well as creation, destruction, and immortality."
