Dr. Sanjay Gupta, Jennette McCurdy, Dylan Mulvaney Join SXSW Lineup

The latest round of panel members for South by Southwest includes CNN medical correspondent Dr. Sanjay Gupta, trans TikTok star Dylan Mulvaney, author and podcast host Jennette McCurdy and John Oates, half of the rock and roll duo Hall & Oates.

Event organizers also announced Tuesday Lisa Su, CEO of the semiconductor chip company AMD, as a keynote speaker for SXSW, which celebrates the convergence of technology, film, television and music.

“Our first announced keynote speaker, chair and CEO of AMD Lisa Su, is an innovator who continues to pioneer advancements in the chip industry and new ideas that will accommodate the needs of quickly developing AI-related technologies,” Hugh Forrest, co-president and chief programming officer for SXSW, said in a statement on Tuesday.

Chasing Life podcast host Dr. Sanjay Gupta will take part in an informal conversation with Dr. Vin Gupta, an MSNBC and NBC News medical analyst and chief medical officer for Amazon Pharmacy. And McCurdy will be in Austin to record her podcast Hard Feelings from SXSW.

Elsewhere, a panel on the legendary hip hop label Def Jam will include rappers Chuck D and Lady London and Def Jam Recordings CEO Tunji Balogun, while recording legend John Oates, half of the Hall & Oates rock and roll duo, will discuss his 50-year music career that includes hit songs like “Rich Girl” and “Private Eyes.”

And transgender influencer Mulvaney will be at SXSW to discuss a bigoted backlash she faced after working with Bud Light in a branded social media post, as part of a panel entitled “When Beer Goes Viral: The Role of Brands & Media in Fighting Hate.”

Also set as SXSW speakers are Women of AI and Blockchain founder Sandy Carter; Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi; The Non-Obvious Company chief trend curator Rohit Bhargava; Signal and Cipher CEO Ian Beacraft; actress, writer, director, producer Tommy Dorfman; Hipergiant founder Ann Hiatt; Women at Work podcast host Amy Gallo; and Just Work podcast co-hosts Wesley Faulkner and Kim Scott.

SXSW will take place March 8 to 16, 2024 in Austin, Texas.
