Dr Alex George has surprised his mother with her dream car.

The Love Island2018 contestant said she had "made so many sacrifices" for him and his siblings over the years.

The emotional moment he unveiled the vehicle, a red 2021 Mini JCW, was captured in a video posted to his YouTube channel in which his mother was reduced to tears after seeing what he had bought her.

In a post to Instagram he wrote: "SURPRISE ❤️ Mum has always put my brothers and I first and made so many sacrifices for us over the years. For as long as I can remember, Mum has been saying that one day she would love a drive in a convertible Mini.

"Well Mum, you now have one of your own, which you can drive every single day! I hope you love it Mum, Paddington is certainly excited for a spin with the roof down 🐾."

He shared a photo of his mother and himself standing beside the vehicle as well as another of his parent in the driving seat holding their new puppy Paddington, and another with her hands on the steering wheel.

The reality star has only just been reunited with his parents after months of being separated by lockdown.

George recently posted a photo of himself with his mum and dad in the garden of their home in Wales, noting they hadn't seen each other since before Christmas.

Last year saw the family experience a tragic loss when George's brother Llŷr took his own life aged 19.

The A&E doctor has since campaigned for better education and support surrounding mental health issues.

Following a meeting with Boris Johnson earlier this year he was named as an ambassador for youth mental health, acting in an advisory role to the government.
