Downtown tuned to The Sound of Bakersfield

Enjoy live music in the streets of downtown Bakersfield on Sunday with The Sound of Bakersfield.

The Downtown Business Association will present the inaugural festival offering a day of live music in a variety of genres, along with food and other vendors.

Set to perform are The Bohemians, Kali Sol, Hot Mess Express, In Kahootz, Valley Fever and Lipstick Revolver.

Vendors will include Howie's Micheladas, 18th Street Bar & Grill, Mama Roomba, My Spot Downtown, Plants for Your Solie, Power Hub and Revolution Vintage.

The Portrait of a Warrior Gallery (1925 Eye St.) will also be open for attendees to visit from 1 to 3 p.m.

This event will also include the results of the DBA's Downtown Margarita Contest.

Starting May 5, margarita lovers have ordered the contenting cocktails at a number of participating businesses and vote for their favorites through a QR code.

And there's still time to get your votes in since the contest continues until Saturday.

Competing this year are Cask Strength Bar and Kitchen (1623 19th St., Suite 300), Mexicali (631 18th St.), Rooster's Honky Tonk (1531 19th St.), KC Steakhouse (2515 F St.) and its Stockyard Speakeasy (2525 F St.), Nuestro Mexico (716 21st St.), Zama Latin American Cuisine (1623 19th St.), Padre Hotel (1702 18th St.), Jerry's Pizza & Pub (1817 Chester Ave.) and Guthrie's Alley Cat (1525 Wall St.), which is serving a coconut lime margarita.

Imbibers who visit at least six spots can be entered in a special drawing.

The top three drinks will be featured at Saturday's festival.

The Sound of Bakersfield will run from 1 to 7 p.m. Sunday on Eye Street between 18th and 19th streets and Wall Street Alley.
