“There are a few places that think outside of the box and offer more than candy,” said Paula Stanifer from the Downtown Monroe Business Network, sponsor of the event.

The River Raisin Banquet Center/Michigan Wine & Beer Portal, 8 N. Monroe St., will offer puppet shows on its patio.

Stanifer said a typical number of businesses are participating this year.

“Some come and go each year," she said. "We estimate about 1,500 and 2,000 children each year.”

She encourages people to attend and also to notice the new and longtime downtown businesses.

“This is a great opportunity for the community to see all of these small businesses that are located in downtown Monroe," Stanifer said. "The businesses love participating in this free, community event that involves so many people. It is our hope that the community realizes that there are a lot of businesses in downtown Monroe, and they will shop, eat and visit when they are ready to make a purchase."
