Doug Jones Alabama Senate Victory Wildly Celebrated On Social Media
The upset victory by Democrat Doug Jones over Republican Roy Moore in the Alabama Senate race drew online huzzahs from a mix of celebrities, politicians and Hollywood. President Donald Trump, who backed Moore, was even-handed in his Twitter response:
Congratulations to Doug Jones on a hard fought victory. The write-in votes played a very big factor, but a win is a win. The people of Alabama are great, and the Republicans will have another shot at this seat in a very short period of time. It never ends!

Some Twitter reactions:
The margin of victory was 10,000ish votes out of 1.2 million+ cast. Alabama landed on the right side of history, but my enthusiasm is tempered by the persistent reality. I'm glad Doug Jones won, but it's a horror that Moore did so well & now may force a recount. https://t.co/GvPPJ8XaLl

We have a president who acknowledged on tape that he assaulted women. I would hope that he pays attention to what's going on and think about resigning.

bringing justice to Klansmen who bombed 16th Street Baptist Church and winning Senate race as a Democrat in AL is a pretty impressive pair for career bookends for Doug Jones

Doug Jones. Thank you, Alabama. You’ve elected a man of incredible integrity, grit, and character. A fighter for working class and middle class Alabamians. He is going to make you proud in the Senate.

Thankfully, today enough Republicans chose country over party. Tomorrow we must redouble our efforts to support candidates worthy of the office they seek.#TwoPaths

Chuck Schumer: “Roy Moore was an awful candidate and never should have gotten to the Senate. But make no mistake about it … Democrats are energized, focused on the middle class and those struggling to get there, and things are looking better and better for 2018.”
