Dorothy Guthrie to keynote state Black History Month event

Founder and curator of the African American Museum of History and Culture at Loray Mill, Dorothy “Dot” Guthrie, will be the keynote speaker for the North Carolina Office of State Human Resources EEO Lunch and Learn on Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2023.

The theme for this Black History Month presentation is “The Blessing of History: Fertile Soil.” Guthrie will explain the blessing of knowing our past, and viewing history as fertile soil and education as good seed to produce excellence.

She will also share a glimpse of her labor of love, the museum she founded in Gastonia four years ago.

The EEO Lunch and Learn will be held virtually, and the recording will later be available to the public.

Dorothy Guthrie was recently named to chair the Coretta Scott King Book Awards Committee of the American Library Association and is currently serving a third term on the Gaston County Board of Education.
