No matter what's going on in your life, you can always count on the power of comedy. 2023 was a damn good year for the genre, especially as awards-season flicks premiered in theaters. (American Fiction and Poor Things, anyone?) Rest assured, reader: In 2024, we can count on a killer lineup of comedies.

Action-comedy god Matthew Vaughn will kick things off with Argylle, which will star Dua Lipa, Henry Cavill, and a very adorable cat. In May, we'll see Ryan Gosling give us what we all want from him: another comedy role. The Fall Guy will see him resurrect the '80s series about a stuntman who has to use his moves in the real world. Later in the year, we'll see some major franchise fare, with Deadpool 3, Bad Boys 4, and The Karate Kid set to hit the big screen.

That's only the beginning, folks. Below, you’ll find our most anticipated comedies of 2024.

Argylle (February 2)

Argylle follows a bestselling author named Elly Conway. She's preparing to release her latest spy novel, but while in the throes of editing, she’s approached by an actual spy who claims her novels are mirroring real events. Suddenly, Elly is thrust into a top-secret investigation by a group of agents relying on her predictions. The film is directed by none other than Matthew Vaughn, so expect peak action-comedy antics.

The American Society of Magical Negroes (March 22)

The American Society of Magical Negroes is a satire following Aren, a young Black man who’s recruited into a secret society. The organization's goal is to “fight white discomfort”—but when Aaron joins the group, he questions if that mission is necessary. The film might even make its way to next year's awards-season conversation—it's set to premiere at Sundance Film Festival this January.

The Fall Guy (May 3)

This spring, we'll see a reboot of the The Fall Guy television series. If you need a reminder of the plot: When Hollywood action star Tom Ryder disappears, his stuntman, Colt Seavers, is tasked with finding him. Colt discovers that Tom is involved some truly dangerous people, so he has put his stuntman skills to use in the real world. Who's playing Colt, you ask? Ryan Gosling. We're in.

Bad Boys 4 (June 14)

Will Smith and Martin Lawrence are teaming up for another Bad Boys movie. The plot of Bad Boys 4 hasn’t been revealed just yet, but it'll surely feature a new adventure for Mike (Smith) and Marcus (Lawrence). In the last film, Bad Boys for Life, the duo was hired to led AMMO (Advanced Miami Metro Operations) team after completing their mission. In Bad Boys 4, maybe Mike and Marcus will train a new round of recruits, a la Top Gun: Maverick?

Deadpool 3 (July 26)

If anything can get Marvel back on track, it's Ryan Reynolds returning as Wade Wilson in Deadpool 3. This time, he'll teams up with Hugh Jackman's Wolverine. We don't know exactly what kind of trouble they'll get up to, but expect plenty of gore, meta gags, and shirtless Jackman moments.

Borderlands (August 9)

Borderlands is an action-comedy based on the popular video game series of the same name. The film stars Bobby Lee, Gina Gershon, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Cate Blanchett as they embark on a journey to a new planet. Their mission? To find a mysterious relic. Let's hope its our next great video game adaptation.

Hit Man (September 5)

Is Hit Man Richard Linklater’s latest masterpiece? We sure hope so. The film—which is based on a true story—stars Glen Powell as Gary Johnson, a police officer who poses as a hitman to arrest the group of men who hired him. The mission gets a little thorny when he tries to save a woman in their inner circle.

Beetlejuice 2 (September 6)

Praise the horror-comedy gods: Tim Burton is bringing Beetlejuice back for another round of mayhem. Plot details are under wraps for now, but Jenna Ortega, Winona Ryder, and Michael Keaton are part of the mayhem—so let's hope Beetlejuice lives up to the original.

Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F (TBA 2024)

Axel Foley is (almost) back. In Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F, Eddie Murphy returns as the hilarious (and badass) detective. When his daughter’s life is threatened, Foley works with new and old friends to find the perpetrator. Really, though, we're just happy to see Murphy back in the role.

The Karate Kid (TBA 2024)

Earlier this year, Sony revealed there was a new Karate Kid film in the works—starring none other than Jackie Chan and Ralph Macchio. It arrived as a little bit of a surprise, since it won't involve the creators of Cobra Kai. The plot details are under wraps, but Jonathan Entwistle (The End of the F***ing World) will direct the film, with a script from Rob Liter (Peter Rabbit). Let's just hope this one is better than The Karate Kid 3.
