Don't you just love a bargain: Remnants of Christmas Tree Shops hit the auction block
SHREWSBURY - Don't you just love a bargain? Christmas Tree Shops across the country may have closed their doors, but pieces of the Shrewsbury store have hit the auction block and could soon be yours, for the right price.
Shelving, displays, registers, printers, phones, computers, even employee lockers are among the nearly 200 items listed for auction by Grafe Auctions.
"Typically, an auction comes about because a building needs to be emptied, but a lot of clients don't want to see their assets just thrown into a landfill," said Judd Grafe, president and CEO of Grafe Auction Co.
After 50 years in business, the retailer filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in May, closing stores across the country, including the 1000 Boston Turnpike location.
By putting items on the auction block, "clients feel good about the process," he said.
"It just feels like the right thing to do from the standpoint of our planet," Grafe said. "A typical store might have 20 dumpsters of trash and after an auction, we're typically left with just half a dumpster of trash."
Anything left over will be donated or recycled if possible.
Despite being based in Minnesota, Grafe is no stranger to the area. Grafe Auctions was instrumental in the corporate move of BJ's headquarters from Westborough to Marlborough in 2022, auctioning off several items during the transition.
