Donny Boaz Announces Exit from The Young and the Restless : 'That's a Wrap'

Donny Boaz is saying farewell to The Young and the Restless.

The 40-year-old actor, who has played Phillip "Chance" Chancellor IV on the CBS soap opera since 2019, announced his departure from the show on Sunday, writing on his Instagram, "Sad news: Tomorrow, Monday, 02/01/21, as of now... will be my last air date on 'The Young and The Restless.' "

"Here's what I know... I was told that Chance is NOT being replaced or killed off. He's just not gonna be there anymore," Boaz continued. "Overall, I am grateful and thankful for this amazing opportunity. I know that I'm walking away from this better at my craft than before I started. 108 episodes."

Boaz went on to thank the series "for this amazing opportunity" and his fans for their support.

"You all have been AMAZING. Thank you. I want to thank everyone associated with Y&R, my cast mates and the crew. You will be missed. I want to thank my agents and manager for bringing this opportunity into my life. We are optimistic for what is to come," he wrote.

In his statement, Boaz also gave a shoutout to costar Melissa Ordway, who plays his character's wife, Abby Newman.

"I know I said I wanted us to be the greatest daytime tv couple ever, I aimed high, I'm sorry we didn't get to see it through," Boaz said. "Working with you has been my absolute pleasure and I can easily say that you are one of the greatest actresses I've ever had the privilege to work with. You deserve an Emmy... this year."

"And... that's a wrap. I am now a free agent," the actor concluded his post. "Time to get to work."

According to Soap Opera Digest, Boaz initially suggested in his statement that it was not his choice to leave the show. (Boaz appears to have changed the caption of his Instagram post as of Monday.)

"I'd love to say that this was my choice, that I've booked the next big project and leaving of my own accord… but that wouldn't be the truth," he originally wrote, according to the outlet. "Regardless the reason… I am not angry or bitter. I am sad. I invested a year of my life into a storyline and didn't get to see it through."

Representatives for CBS and The Young and the Restless did not immediately respond to PEOPLE's request for comment.

Boaz's exit comes two months after he temporarily stepped away from The Young and the Restless due to a COVID-19 diagnosis. At the time, his role was filled by Justin Gaston, Ordway's real-life husband.

"I want to send out a special thank you to these two #lovebirds @mel_ordway You're Amazing, Everyday. It's my absolute pleasure to work with you. She called me almost everyday while I was out to check on me and I want her to know that meant a lot. @jmichaelgaston I want to thank you for stepping in to Chance Chancellors shoes at the last minute and for being a badass!" Boaz wrote in a Dec. 15 post, sharing a photo of Ordway, 37, and Gaston, 32.

"The fans have no idea that you had a 3-4 day heads up and had to crank out 110+ pages a week to catch up for the time I was out," he continued. "Sad I couldn't be there for such a momentous occasion for Chance and Abby's wedding, but simultaneously in awe of what an amazing and unique experience it was to get to marry your own spouse on daytime TV. That's pretty cool. I'm thankful for [you] two."
