Donnelly Rhodes, ‘Battlestar Galactica’ Star, Dies at 80
Donnelly Rhodes, who played chief medical officer Dr. Sherman Cottle on the “Battlestar Galactica” reboot, died Monday, CTV News reports. He was 80.
The Canadian actor, who was also known for his portrayal of Dutch Letner on the TV comedy “Soap,” died at the Baillie House Hospice in Canada following a battle with cancer, according to CTV News.
“Battlestar Galactica” reboot producer Ronald D. Moore reflected on Rhodes’ death Monday night via Twitter, writing, “Just heard that Donnelly Rhodes, Galactica’s own Doc Cottle, has passed away. Very sad. He was a lovely man and I so enjoyed writing for him. Admired his work ever since ‘Soap.’ He will be missed.”

In addition to “Battlestar Galactica” and “Soap,” Rhodes’ many television roles included parts in “Da Vinci’s Inquest” (which he starred in), “The Outer Limits,” “The X-Files” and “Murder, She Wrote.”
Rhodes took up acting after serving as an airman-mechanic in the Royal Canadian Air Force.

Rhodes is survived by his wife Sarah, as well as a daughter and son.
