Travis Kelce's mom, Donna Kelce, got her birthday wishes in for the NFL star before everyone else.

On Thursday, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end celebrated his 34th birthday with friends just days after he helped the team beat the New York Jets on Sunday.

During an appearance on the Today show Friday morning, Donna said she didn't have a chance to speak to her son on his actual birthday because he's "practicing most of the week" as the Chiefs prepare for a road game in Minnesota on Sunday.

"I texted him the day before and asked him, you know, I told him, ‘Happy birthday. I know it’s tomorrow but you’re going to get a thousand texts tomorrow,' " she explained.

Donna added, "So I texted him the day before and true to form, he always jokes around and says, ‘Love you Mommy.’ So, still at 33," she said, referring to his age on Wednesday before his actual birthday.

The mother of two NFL stars (her other son Jason Kelce plays for the Philadelphia Eagles) will celebrate her own birthday next week on Oct. 9, so the Today hosts surprised Donna with a berry cobbler. "I love anything with berries on it," she told them.

Donna pointed out that Jason's eldest daughter, Wyatt Elizabeth, celebrated her fourth birthday on Oct. 2. "We have a lot of October babies. A lot of Libras," she said, jokingly adding that the zodiac sign is "manipulative."

After Swift flew out to Kansas City for his game on Sept. 24, Travis told Jason on their podcast, “I’m enjoying life and I sure as hell enjoyed this weekend." Following the “exciting game,” the player shared his thoughts on having the “Blank Space” singer in his suite, saying, “Shout out to Taylor for pulling up. That was pretty ballsy.”

The “All Too Well” singer was most recently seen at her second Kansas City Chiefs game when they played against the Jets in New York, and was even photographed with her arm around Donna.

Of the dating rumors, a source exclusively told PEOPLE that the pair are “still just getting to know each other,” and that “it’s nothing too serious.”

“He’s focusing on football like always has,” the source said. “During the NFL season, his priority is the Chiefs, and it’s all about the team.”

Despite the new buzz surrounding his name, Travis remains focused and has told PEOPLE the Chiefs are “motivated to stay on top” this season.

"I think every single week we're going to get everybody's best shot, and we kind of earned that last year and earned that respect," he said. "So I'm excited for it. I always want to play everybody when they're at their best. And sure enough, I know we'll be getting that week in, week out here in Kansas City."
