It’s tricky to sort out all of the Donald Trump legal news, but his 2020 election interference case in Georgia is confirming shocking details that were only rumors just three years ago. Jenna Ellis, a former lawyer for Donald Trump, revealed to prosecutors just how far he was willing to go even though he lost the White House to Joe Biden.

Ellis shared in her testimony, obtained by ABC News, that it was Donald Trump’s White House Deputy Chief of Staff for Communications, Dan Scavino, who unveiled the sinister plans to her after she told him that their challenge to the election was “essentially over.” They couldn’t go any further with their claims. She says that Scavino, in a “kind of excited” tone, told her, “Well, we don’t care, and we’re not going to leave.”

“And I said, ‘What do you mean?’” Ellis queried. “And he said ‘Well, the boss’, meaning President Trump — and everyone understood ‘the boss,’ that’s what we all called him — he said, ‘The boss is not going to leave under any circumstances. We are just going to stay in power.'” The lawyer decided to be the voice of reason at that moment and prod Scavino just a little further.

“I said to him, ‘Well, it doesn’t quite work that way, you realize?’” she continued. “And he said, ‘We don’t care.'” As we all know Donald Trump did cede power to Joe Biden (and peacefully), but Ellis’ moment of clarity didn’t excuse her from also being charged alongside her former boss. She is one of 19 defendants in the Georgia election fraud case and has pleaded guilty to “one count of aiding and abetting false statements and writings.”

This unbelievable revelation confirms the long-held rumor from Maggie Haberman’s book, Confidence Man: The Making of Donald Trump and the Breaking of America, that Donald Trump tried very hard to stay in power after his term was up. This could be devastating evidence for the former president who is charged with trying to overturn the 2020 election results in the southern state — and it only adds another curious chapter in his legal saga.
