It’s been a rough week for presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump. In addition to his ongoing feud with the the national press over his donations to veterans groups, the billionaire mogul has also seemingly been at war with the forces of irony as well.

It all started on Friday when Billy Joel dedicated the song “The Entertainer” to Trump during his show at Madison Square Garden, with a quip about how “entertaining” The Donald has been over the past few months, according to The Washington Post.

The song includes the lyrics “Today I am your champion/ I may have won your hearts/ But I know the game, you’ll forget my name/ And I won’t be here in another year,” which refers to a singer who has become immune to the empty, fake nature of fame, the rigors of life on the road and staying on top and the knowledge that today’s news is tomorrow’s fish wrap.

Plenty of people noticed that the Piano Man might have been taking a bit of a gentle jab at Trump.

The one person who didn’t seem to get the joke, though, was Trump himself, who enthusiastically thanked Joel for the shout out.

It wasn’t the first time Joel has dedicated the song to Trump (he also did it in Denver in September). Reacting to the minor flurry of tweets about the nod to Trump, Joel emailed Time on Saturday to play down the political nature of his actions. “I’m in the entertainment business. Donald Trump’s campaign has been very entertaining. Aside from that, who cares about the political opinions of a piano player?” A spokesperson for Joel could not be reached for additional comment.
