Trump’s son, Donald Trump Jr, shared a news story on Twitter Thursday morning that called the edit “pathetic,” and implied it was politically motivated.

Later in the day, Trump himself weighed in, seeming to have more of a sense of humor about ending up cut from the broadcast. First tweeting, “I guess Justin [Trudeau] doesn’t much like my making him pay up on NATO or Trade!” Followed by, “The movie will never be the same! (just kidding).”

The 1992 comedy film follows Kevin (Culkin) as he’s once again separated from his family on Christmas vacation and ends up in New York City. In one scene, Kevin winds up at the Plaza Hotel, where he asks Trump — who owned the hotel at the time — for directions to the lobby. This scene was cut entirely when CBC aired the movie this holiday season.

CBC Head of Public Affairs Chuck Thompson clarified on Twitter that the scene’s removal was not politically motivated and the film was simply “edited for time” back in 2014, two years before Trump was elected.

“This happens regularly with films adapted for television,” Thompson noted. “The scene with Donald Trump was one of several that were cut from the movie as none of them were integral to the plot. These edits were done in 2014.”

Still, many Twitter users weren’t letting the president off easy after his scene was cut. Star Wars actor Mark Hamill responded to Trump Jr’s criticism of the edit by noting that in 1990, Trump won a Razzie Award for Worst Supporting Actor for his role in the critically panned film Ghosts Can’t Do It.

“Fingers crossed they don’t cut your dad’s part in ‘Ghosts Can’t Do It,'” Hamill gleefully tweeted Thursday.

Being in Home Alone 2 seemed to be a bragging right for Trump, who just referenced his appearance while speaking with military members this Christmas Eve. “Well, I’m in ‘Home Alone 2,’ and a lot of people mention it every year, especially around Christmas,” he said. “They say ‘I just saw you.’ Especially young kids, they say, ‘I just saw you on the movie.'”

Trump has made cameos in numerous movies like Little Rascals, The Associate, and Zoolander. One movie, however, removed his scene out of the final cut entirely. As Matt Damon once explained, Trump insisted on getting a part in Scent of a Woman since the movie was shot on his property. But in the end, his cameo was edited out.

“The deal was that if you wanted to shoot in one of his buildings, you had to write him in a part,” Damon said. “[Director] Martin Brest had to write something in Scent of a Woman — and the whole crew was in on it. You have to waste an hour of your day with a bullsh– shot: Donald Trump walks in and Al Pacino’s like, ‘Hello, Mr. Trump!’ — you had to call him by name — and then he exits. You waste a little time so that you can get the permit, and then you can cut the scene out. But I guess in Home Alone 2 they left it in.”

Not anymore, at least on CBC.
