After four indictments in five months, Donald Trump has kept a cool exterior in public when he’s been asked about his legal situation. However, behind closed doors, it seems to be a much different story for the former president.

Donald Trump is apparently very worried about going to prison and has been vocalizing that concern to friends and colleagues, according to Rolling Stone. He’s reportedly asked whether he would go somewhere cushy like a “club fed” type of prison. (When Martha Stewart was sentenced, she went to Federal Prison Camp, Alderson nicknamed, “Camp Cupcake.”) Donald Trump doesn’t want to go to a “bad” prison, especially as a former president.

There are a lot of questions to be answered since the United States hasn’t found itself in a situation like this before. There would be details to figure out, including possible home confinement, Secret Service protection, and would he have to ditch his suit and tie for “one of those jumpsuits.” The public Donald Trump said in an NBC interview last week that he doesn’t “even think” about going to prison. “I’m built a little differently I guess,” he said. Yet he’s not feeling so confident out of the spotlight.

For now, his legal team is leaning hard into his not guilty pleas and not really thinking about a possible future behind bars. If he won the 2024 presidential election, the White House would offer him “at least temporary immunity from prosecution,” but investigators are hoping to wrap up his legal cases long before voters go to the ballot box. That looming thought might have Donald Trump sweating a little bit more.
