Donald Trump Gets Heated Defending Campaign Manager Facing Criminal Charges

Corey Lewandowski, Donald Trump’s presidential campaign manager, was charged with simple battery in Florida for an incident involving Brietbart reporter Michelle Fields. Trump addressed the controversy on Today with Matt Lauer and Savannah Guthrie, where the exchange became heated. “She touched me. She grabbed me by the arm at least twice,” Trump said of Fields, not allowing Guthrie to get a word in during many portions of the interview.

Lewandowski claimed he never made contact with Fields, tweeting “you are totally delusional. I never touched you. As a matter of fact, I have never even met you.” Lauer asked how the American people would feel about a member of his staff blatantly misrepresenting the truth if he were president. Trump elected to dodge the question. This is the second incident involving Lewandowski at an event. Lauer brought this up, but Trump continued to defend his actions. “Matt, you’re going to destroy a man’s life over what happened?” Trump asked Lauer. “She changed her tune a lot after she saw she was on tape.”

When asked if an apology would have prevented the criminal charges, Trump was dismissive, as the interview ended on a sour note. “Why don’t we say we’ll agree to disagree on this, Mr. Trump?” Lauer said, to which Trump replied, “You can’t disagree, Matt, because the evidence is the evidence. Most people would disagree with you.”
