Donald Glover is bringing Lando Calrissian back to the big screen.

Earlier this summer, news broke that the Atlanta star and his brother Stephen Glover were taking over writing duties on Disney's planned Lando Calrissian TV show. Now, EW has confirmed that the project is instead being developed as a movie, with Glover expected to reprise his role as the smooth-talking space smuggler.

Disney first announced plans to develop a Star Wars series around Lando almost three years ago. At the time, Dear White People creator Justin Simien was attached to write. But Simien has since left the project, and the Glovers signed on prior to the start of the writers' strike. The project is now on pause, due to the ongoing strike.

The Glover brothers are frequent collaborators, working together on shows like Atlanta and Swarm. Stephen Glover appeared on the podcast Pablo Torre Finds Out this week, where he opened up about Lando.

"The idea right now is to do a movie," Glover explained. "But that's the thing. Right now because of the strike, it's kind of like [a game of] telephone."

Billy Dee Williams originated the role of Lando Calrissian in 1980's Empire Strikes Back, with Glover playing a younger Lando in 2018's Solo: A Star Wars Story.

In recent years, Lucasfilm has mostly turned its attention to Star Wars television, launching shows like The Mandalorian, Andor, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and the recent Ahsoka. But there are also multiple films in development, including a spin-off movie about Daisy Ridley's Rey, a film directed by Dave Filoni, and a film directed by James Mangold.
