Donald Glover’s ‘This Is America’ Lands Seven MTV Video Music Award Nominations, Including Video of the Year
After conquering the Emmy nominations last week with the second season of “Atlanta,” Donald Glover has now dominated the 2018 MTV Video Music Award nominations. Glover’s “This Is America” music video, released under his rap name Childish Gambino, has been nominated for seven VMAs, including video of the year. Other nominations for the clip include best cinematography, best art direction, and best direction for Glover’s frequent collaborator Hiro Murai.
“This Is America” was released May 5 and became an instant phenomenon in the media, spawning countless think pieces and essays and accumulating over 337 million views in the months since. The video will face off against clips from Ariana Grande, Bruno Marks, Drake, Camila Cabello, and Beyonce and JAY-Z in the video of the year category.
