‘If I Don’t Get Immediate Help, I Feel Like I Will Be Dead,’ Says Woman Disabled Due To Her Weight

“I feel like a prisoner inside my own body,” says Jenny. At nearly 500 lbs. she says she has been obese her entire life and is now disabled because of her weight. “I can hardly walk. I can go about ten steps, and then my legs just give out,” she says, noting that she uses a wheelchair and is bedridden much of the time. “Psychologically, there are lots of issues,” says Jenny. “I’m depressed. I’m anxious all the time.” Jenny says she’s been working with a bariatric surgeon to try to lose 100 lbs. so that she can qualify for weight-loss surgery. She says that after two years, she has shed only around 25 lbs. and has given up. “If I don’t get immediate help, I feel like I will be dead, but there’s just no other way around it,” she says. Watch Monday’s episode of Dr. Phil, “The Psychological Weight of Obesity,” to find out how fitness expert and author Brooke Burke is stepping up to help. And later, Jenny’s mother, Sherry, talks about her own struggles with obesity and trying to help Jenny lose weight as a child. Dr. Phil airs Monday-Friday.
