Faren says she and her live-in boyfriend, Ricky, spend most of their time trying to control her 7-year-old son, Michael, who has tantrums in which he screams, kicks, punches people, and hits their pets and himself. “I can’t take it anymore,” says Faren, noting that she often gives Michael her phone, “just so he’ll be quiet and leave me alone.” Ricky, who has lived with Faren for about eight months, acknowledges disciplining the child. “I don’t directly influence the way he acts, but maybe the way I respond to him makes him act out a little bit more,” he claims. Dr. Phil reviews a video of Michael’s interactions with Ricky and Faren after Faren took a video game away from the child.
