Don Imus Lists Manhattan Penthouse

Don Imus may have a tough-talking persona and a penchant for cowboy hats and boots, but for decades the cantankerous and occasionally obnoxious radio personality and philanthropist has lived in the lap of big-city luxury in a sprawling duplex penthouse atop a swank apartment house on New York’s Upper West Side — a property that is newly listed at $16.9 million. A separate, street-level apartment used as guest quarters and office space can be had for an additional $2.9 million. Described in listing details as “an atmospheric and unique home in the sky,” the penthouse has three bedrooms, one of them a spacious master suite with fireplace and extensive closets, and another no bigger than a prison cell. The suburban house-sized aerie provides a park-view living room with arched windows and massive stone fireplace; roomy den with kiva-style corner fireplace; wee library/office with hidden access to a powder room; small fitness room; and Southwestern-inspired kitchen with bleached-wood cabinetry, high-grade appliances and built-in dining banquette. A wide and planted terrace wraps around three sides of the penthouse with spine-tingling views that sweep over Central Park and the Midtown skyline.

The “Imus in the Morning” host previously owned a 10,000-square-foot mansion on four waterfront acres along a particularly pricey stretch of shoreline in Westport, Conn., that he sold in the spring of 2013 for $14.4 million, and he continues to own a nearly 8,400-square-foot mansion on more than 160 rural acres in Brenham, Texas, which he acquired in October 2013 for an undisclosed amount, as well as a 3,400-acre working ranch about 45 miles outside Santa Fe, N.M., that is also for sale, at $30 million.
